Description:
The Edmonton Fetal Alcohol Network (EFAN) is hosting a video PSA competition which will conclude with the debuting of the videos and awards ceremony for International FASD Day (Sept 9, 2009).

Contest is open now, with a deadline of August 1, 2009 at 3pm

Topics can be based on the following:
Alcohol Education
- What is sensible or responsible drinking?
- How can I support safe drinking?
- How do advertisements impact my drinking behaviors?

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
- What is FASD?
- How does FASD impact a child and/or adult?
- How can we prevent FASD?

Community Response
- How can we support healthy pregnancies?
- How can we support individuals and families impacted by FASD?

Hardisty Family Relief Services [Edmonton & area]

Description:
Provides a 6-bedroom community home for short-term respite care for children with disabilities. Child must have status with Family Support for Children with Disabilities or active involvement with Child and Family services. As well, child must be medically stable but can have significant developmental delays.

Ages 5 - 18.

Million Dollar Babies - CBC Documentary [Online]

Description:
They're called million dollar babies, and one is born every day in Alberta. They are babies with brain injuries caused by the alcohol their mothers drank during pregnancy — brain injuries that can cost a fortune to deal with over a lifetime.

For one week, CBC Radio's James Hees takes a look at the cost of raising a child with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and what is being done to address the problem.
