Description:
Melatonin is a substance normally produced by our bodies, and helps us with falling asleep. Many children with FASD have disrupted or irregular sleep patterns. It is suspected that they have lower than usual levels of melatonin, and that this might be part of the reason for their sleep patterns being what they are.
Some parents have found that giving their children with FASD melatonin an hour before bedtime, helps them fall asleep faster and get improved sleep.
Melatonin is readily available on the shelf in drugstores. We recommend speaking to your doctor to determine if this is an appropriate supplement to give, and what amount to use.
